I think the rest of the United Methodist Women will agree with me that we are glad to have the annual bazaar over! It was great and very successful, but it’s good to be on the other side of it. It was a very successful bazaar. If you missed Ann’s announcement yesterday, we grossed over $1500. That may be a record high! I want to add my thanks to all who worked so long and hard to make sure the bazaar was successful. I also want to thank the many church people who supported the bazaar by shopping and telling your friends to come. That played a large part in the success.
We have a sign up sheet for people wishing to have Thanksgiving dinner at the church. If it’s easier, you can reply to this email and let me know that you would like to attend (the number in your group, if more than yourself) and what you would like to bring for the meal. You can just indicate a salad, side dish or dessert if you would like. Anyone connected to this congregation who doesn’t have other plans on Thanksgiving day is very welcome to join us. We’ll be there since our family gets together before and after the actual holiday.
Another sign up sheet currently active is the UMW Christmas luncheon. Everyone (not only women) is invited to come to the luncheon. The restaurant’s banquet room (J.T.’s Steakhouse) can only accommodate 30 people, so it is important to get your name on the list as soon as possible. You will need to pay for you meal when you sign up. The cost is $19.00, $21.00 or $23.00, depending on your menu choice. The price includes the meal, beverage, tax and tip so you should not have any other cost for the lunch. This is an annual event that is just to have a nice time together and share a meal during the holiday season.
The coming week is as busy as usual!
- Today: Worship Team meets at 6:00 p.m. This team welcomes new members! If you are interested in how the worship service and/or the sanctuary are put together, come join us. Tonight’s focus will surely be on the fast approaching Advent and Christmas seasons. This is the actual beginning of the Christian Year!
- Also tonight: The PFLAG groups meets at the church at 7:00 p.m. Boy Scouts meet in the east end of the building beginning at 6:30 p.m.
- Tuesday: Disciple Bible Study at Pastor Jerry’s home at 6:30 p.m.
- Wednesday: Active Listeners group meets at 9:30 a.m.
- Wednesday: Disciple Bible Study begins at 10:00 a.m.
- Wednesday: Choir practice begins at 6:30 p.m.
- Thursday: The women’s book club will meet at Julie Cliffton’s home this month to discuss the book “A Skeleton in God’s Closet”. Please meet at the church at 6:30 to carpool. The Cliffton’s live a ways out of town. Most women who have come to the group in the past should have received directions to the house and I have a printed copy in the office.
Those of you who were in worship yesterday heard Pastor Jerry announce a class titled “What Is a United Methodist?” Membership in this church will be offered to those attending the class, but is not a requirement to attend! Even people who have been here a long time could learn more about the United Methodist Church. The class is being offered on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. beginning November 20th through December 18th with the exception of Thanksgiving Day. Again, all are welcome to attend the class.
If anyone was planning to make things for the UMW bazaar and didn’t get it done, you have another opportunity! The UMW has rented a table at the bazaar at the Merk building on November 29th. You may bring items for sale to the church at any time and let Ann Ford know if you are interested in helping at the event.
A special thank you was received that I’d like to share with you all. Florence Covel thanks you for the birthday cake. Leona Bovard provided the cake in honor of Florence’s birthday and others in October (including Leona’s on Halloween). In case anyone is keeping score, Leona is our most senior member at 93, Florence is close behind at 92 and Thelma Meyer turns 92 in December. We are so very fortunate to have these wonderful ladies with us! We also have a few ladies and a gentleman who are in their late 80’s. We are so blessed to have them all!
I hope to see or hear from you all between now and the next Monday update and, or course, in worship next Sunday.
Blessings,
Sharon
